Task#1

This is my third time starting Pi2.0.  I am hopeful that this time I can get more excited about it and actually find something that I really want to use in the classroom.  We shall see.
I watched Frontline the other night on television.  It was talking about whether technology is helping or hindering people, especially our youth.  It gave some good arguments for both sides.  I feel the same way.  At times, I think it is just the boost that our educational system needs. On the other hand, I see what many of our youth are like when they "graduate" from high school.  Many kids can look up all the facts that they need but how many actually have the patience to sit down try to figure out how a math/chem problem is worked by looking at the answer and working backwards?

  1. Third time is a charm!
I find that everything is better in moderation - a lot of these arguments for or against technology look at situations where the students are using no technology, or are spending all day glued to a screen. We don't want to replace other quality instructional opportunities just for the sake of saying we use technology. Rather, we should using technology where it can enhance and improve what we are doing.

  3. Jo- Keep working at it. Even if you don't finish you'll always learn a little more. It might interest you to know that we struggle in technology to make sure that is just part of the skills students acquire and want them to have all types of activities. That is one of the reasons I have asked elementary teachers not to let free time in the lab substitute for playground. I know we are on the same page about that. Enjoy Spring and compute when you can.
